“Wherever students are on the road from counting to calculus, we’ll discover what they need to learn, and working together, embark on the journey to make a better mathematician.”

— Colin Watts BSc (Hons) PGCE (FE)

Philosophy

Maths is a complex web of interconnected ideas, and as we progress through learning, each new idea is builds upon its predecessors. We can think about this as a universe of knowledge, with counting at the centre, and advanced calculus at the extreme edges.

For example, students are highly unlikely to succeed at GCSE probability questions without the ability to work fluently with fractions. My mission is to find the areas closest to the centre of the maths universe that my students need help with, and work on those topics.

How it works

We use AI to assess current levels of understanding, and plan each session accordingly. For each session we use an online whiteboard shared by tutor and student, and will often use other online tools to enhance learning. Students are encouraged to continue to use the AI outside of the sessions to boost their knowledge.

With a comprehensive knowledge of the student’s current level, we can ensure the most appropriate material is covered.

One-to-one online tuition

In every maths class within school, we try to pitch the learning to the correct level for the group. However there will always be students for whom the material is either too easy, or to difficult. With one-to-one tuition, we can use the right material delivered at the right pace.

We embrace technology to develop appropriate models for learning. For example, if a student requires assistance with simultaneous equations, within seconds we can have a simultaneous equations worksheet on screen to complete.

One-to-one face-to-face tuition

We have a limited number of face-to-face slots, where the student can be taught here in Long Ditton. However, do see our FAQ’s as to why we believe online tuition is the most beneficial way to learn for the vast majority of students.
